The Internet Writes a Book

1 September — 31 October 2026

One protagonist. 60 days. And absolutely no idea where the story will go.

Every day, a new part of the story is published.
The internet decides what happens next.

How It Works

01 — READ
A new part of the story is published every day on Instagram.

02 — DECIDE
Comment what you think should happen next. There are no multiple-choice options — the direction is yours.

03 — VOTE
Like the suggestions you want to see happen. At 9am the following morning, the most-liked eligible comment becomes part of the story.

04 — REPEAT
I write what happens next, publish it that evening, and hand the story straight back to you.

60 days. One continuous story. No predetermined ending.

The Rules

01 — ONE PROTAGONIST
Joe stays at the centre of the story from beginning to end.

02 — YOU DECIDE WHAT HAPPENS
Leave your suggestion in the comments. Anything is possible, provided the story can reasonably continue from it.

03 — MOST LIKES WINS
At 9am UK time, the eligible comment with the most likes becomes the direction for the next instalment.

04 — IF THERE'S A TIE
The tied suggestions go to an Instagram Story poll for one hour. The winner takes the story forward.

05 — KEEP IT POSSIBLE
Suggestions that are impossible to use, deliberately derail the project, or breach the project's boundaries will be skipped and the next eligible suggestion used.

06 — IF NOBODY COMMENTS
Three possible directions will be posted to Instagram Stories. The audience chooses from there.

07 — THE STORY REMEMBERS
Everything that has already happened remains part of the story. Decisions have consequences and continuity matters.

What Happens Next?

On 31 October, the internet makes its final decision.

Then I take everything we've created together — every turn, detour and unexpected decision — and turn it into a finished book.

The Internet Writes a Book. Literally.

With all contributors credited in the final product.

Coming Christmas 2026.
